Marydith, a long time Trona resident was born 13 Oct 1926 in Borosolvay, CA. Along with being a housewife and mother, Marydith was a life-long community volunteer and supporter. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a girl scout leader, a Sunday School superintendent, president of the cemetery association, president of the Historical Society, started the Trona Thrift Shop and she was the Elks Lodge Person of the year in 1979. She was truly devoted to her community in every way.
She was preceded in death by her son, Artemus, parents Jim and Bessie Marie Tyler.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Haughton, son James T. Haughton of Trona, CA; daughter-in-law Sheila Haughton of Trona; son Tom Haughton and daughter-in-law Jan Haughton of Benton City, WA; daughter Margaret Bishop and son-in-law Matthew Bishop of Puyallup, WA; brother-in-law Paul Haughton of Troutman, NC; sister-in-law Wanda Haughton of Troutman; sister-in-law Marjorie Fitzpatrick and brother-in-law Harold Fitzpatrick of Arcata, CA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Paul Foster Haughton, Sr., 91, of Troutman, passed away, Sunday, April 12, 2020.
Mr. Haughton was born February 25, 1929 in Bakersfield, CA and was the son of the late Gayle and Charlcie Foster Haughton. He was a graduate of Trona, CA High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from THE University of Alabama. He served in the US Air Force and on December 13, 1969, he married the love of his life, Wanda Hayes Haughton.
He was one of the founders of Romac Metals, Inc. in 1969 and American Stainless Tubing, Inc. in 1994. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Cory Haughton (Susan) of Chattanooga, TN, Beth Painter (Ray) of Chattanooga, TN, Paul F. Haughton, Jr. of King George, VA, Rex Haughton (Caroline) of Troutman, Julia Haughton-Baldridge (Keith) of Nashville, TN, Maria Roberson (Kevin) of Troutman; 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren with another due in June. Highly intelligent, Paul was successful in more than just business. He played piano by ear and could sit down and play anything that he heard. Growing up in the Mojave Desert, he was fascinated by plants once he moved to NC. In addition to his beautiful yard, he had a lovely garden. He canned vegetables, made jams, awesome pickles and even his own wine. Paul was especially proud of his tomatoes and delighted in giving tomatoes and tomato plants to his friends. He loved to share his knowledge with anyone that had a listening ear. Paul loved the dogs and cats that became part of his family and fondly reminisced about their adventures.
Paul was a very special man that touched many lives. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

Wanda was born January 19, 1941 in Shelby, NC and was the daughter of the late Joseph Hoyt Hayes and Mary Sue Ledford Hayes. She was a graduate of Myers Park High School and on December 13, 1969, she married the love of her life, Paul Foster Haughton, Sr., who passed away April 12, 2020.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rex Haughton (Caroline) and Maria Haughton Roberson (Kevin), all of Troutman, NC. Additionally she is survived by her step-children, Cory Haughton (Susan) of Chattanooga, TN, Beth Painter (Ray) of Chattanooga, TN, Paul F. Haughton, Jr. of King George, VA, Julia Haughton-Baldridge (Keith) of Nashville, TN, and her daughter-in-law, Harriet Haughton of Auburn, AL, her 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, her sister, Dianne Thackerson of Shelby, NC and her brother, Robert Hayes, Sr. of Shelby, NC as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She loved flowers and making arrangements from the ones in her yard. From childhood, she had compassion for animals and fed any that came into her yard or to her pier. Her pets were part of her family and she loved them all dearly. She was obsessed with butterflies.
Wanda was an exceptional cook known for her delicious banana pudding with its secret ingredient and always having something good to eat in the refrigerator. Her welcoming spirit and good food made her home a place that her children’s friends often referred to as their second home. She always had great advice and a calming spirit that came from her love of Jesus Christ.
To say that she was the best wife, mother and grandmother would be an understatement. She adored her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her entire family was shocked when we learned of her cancer diagnosis and our peace comes in knowing that she has been reunited with her husband in heaven.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, July 2, 2020 in the New Perth ARP Church Cemetery.
