NEWPORT NEWS - On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, our Heavenly Father called home his daughter, Carlyn Jeanette Haughton, to Eternal Life. Jeanette was born May 25, 1940 to Nannie and Carl R. Flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved son, Richard Ernest Haughton IV; infant daughter, Jennifer Haughton; five sisters, Nan, Adrian, Ramona, Rachel, and Peggy. Jeanette is survived by the love of her life, whom she was married to for 59 years, Richard Ernest Haughton III; daughters, Nanette Roos, Bobbie Sue Giuffree, Lisa Hayes (Earl); sons, William Haughton (Tiffany), Steven Haughton; grandchildren, Matthew Hanson (April), Jacob Hanson (Lindsey), Holly Roos, Jeanette Hayes Kingsley (Matthew), John E. Hayes III, Crystal Campbell Haughton; sisters, Mildred Portewig (Connie), Betty Ann Nelson (James) 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly. Jeanette had a deep love and devotion to her family, especially the grandchildren, raising and adopting some as her own. She loved talking to people and never met a stranger. Her last 2 years, after having heart surgery, was a hard struggle that she fought daily with great determination. Our lives are forever changed now that she is gone, but we hold on to the promise from our Heavenly Father that we will be together again. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.

Richard Ernest Haughton III 1935 - 2017
NEWPORT NEWS - On Thursday, April 20, 2017, our beloved Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, the Rock of our family, Richard "Dick" Ernest Haughton III, age 81, was taken Home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to spend eternity. It was the desire of his heart to go to his Heavenly home and also be reunited with the Love of his Life, Carlyn Jeanette Haughton, whom had passed away December 6, 2016. He retired from the Newport News Police Department as a Lieutenant, a job that he enjoyed and reminisced about often, making lifelong friends. He never fully retired, operating Haughton Lawn Care for many years to ensure his children and grandchildren were taken care of. He was a Private Pilot, owning his own plane and later becoming a member of the Tidewater Flying Club. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone, but above all, he was known for his honesty and integrity. He believed in keeping his word and going far and beyond expectations. He did not just talk about how people should act as a Believer in God, he lived it daily, always thinking of others first. He was always fair and saw the good in people, giving them a chance and not judging but encouraging. He had a wonderful sense of humor and felt it was always better to laugh than to cry, a task that became very difficult after the passing of his wife. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlyn Jeanette Haughton; mother, Dorothy Louise Haughton; father, Richard Ernest Haughton Jr; sister, Doris Curtis; son, Richard Ernest Haughton IV; and infant daughter, Jennifer Haughton. He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters, Nanette Roos, Bobbie Sue Giuffre, and Lisa Hayes (Earl); sons, William Charles Haughton (Tiffany) and Steven Haughton; grandchildren, Matthew Hanson (April), Ernest Hanson (Lindsey), Holly Roos, Jeanette Hayes Kingsley (Matthew), John Earl Hayes III, and Crystal Haughton; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other family members he loved greatly. Special thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Harden, Andrea, MiMi, and all of the staff and nurses at Virginia Oncology for their caring devotion during his battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
