WA, USA, HOUGHTON, William F., Sr. 1923 - 2014 William Floyd Houghton was born February 13, 1923 to Floyd and Carolyn Houghton in Prosser, Washington. In 1927 the family moved to Yakima where he went through the Yakima school system and graduated in 1941. He attended Washington State College (now WSU), where he was a life member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He also attended the University of Iowa. He then served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was recalled to service in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He returned to Yakima and continued to work at his parents' paint store. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW, American Legion, and became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. In 1950 he married Betty Wiley in Yakima. Betty and Bill had two children, Bill Jr. and Karen. Bill moved the family to Spokane in 1963 after accepting a branch manager position at Dutch Boy Paints. In 1970 Bill began real estate appraising for HUD/FHA and was consequently transferred to Southern California and Alaska. After appraising throughout Alaska, Bill transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, appraising Indian lands throughout Alaska. He thoroughly enjoyed flying to remote villages for his job. Bill and Betty returned to Spokane in 1986 and Bill resumed his work as a review appraiser for HUD/FHA. After Betty died of cancer in 1993, he moved to the family property in Chewelah and continued to live there for fourteen years. He eventually move into the town of Chewelah and lived there for several more years. With his health starting to fail, Bill moved to the Good Samaritan Society nursing facility in Spokane Valley and resided there for over three years. Bill passed away on November 12, 2014. He is survived by his son, Bill Houghton Jr; daughter Karen (Jerry) McCandless; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two nieces and a cousin. Bill was proud to be an American, loved licorice, chocolate covered cherries and slot machines. He was a very thoughtful and considerate person. Special thanks to all the outstanding staff at Good Samaritan for all their love and caring. Bill requested his ashes be spread in a quiet glade on the Chewelah property. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Published in Spokesman-Review on Nov. 14, 2014

Tanner L. Houghton, Sr.

Tanner Houghton, age 44, died unexpectedly on December 2 at his home in Milton, Washington.

Tanner was born in Anchorage, Alaska on August 20, 1970. He moved all over the United States and lived in Italy while he was a minor. He has lived in South King County most of his adult life. Tanner was funny and generous. He worked most of his adult life in the grocery industry where he enjoyed serving his community. Tanner was a talented woodworker, a loving brother, a loyal son, and a devoted father.

He is survived by both his parents, Terence Houghton, Sr and Wanda Houghton; his wife, Karie; his four children: Tanner, Jr, Kinsey, Liam, and Cole; all four of his siblings: Terence, Jr, Trenton, Trevor, and Brett; all of his nieces and nephews: Carly Jean Smith, Kaylee, Colton, Casey, Cody, Tyler, Caleb, Taryn, Alexa, Daniella; and his great nephews Broden, James Quinn, and Jax.

We will gather to mourn together and celebrate Tanner's life Saturday, December 6 starting at 12:30 pm at the home of Tanner's parents, Terence and Wanda Houghton, 45 Hylebos Ave, Milton, WA 98354.
