Obituary

Rex Edward Houghton, 72, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 and also from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday before the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Walcott Cemetery.Rex Edward Houghton was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 26, 1944 to Edward Houghton and Marietta Story Houghton. He grew up in Walcott, Iowa and graduated from West High School in Davenport in 1962.Rex served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored Division, from 1962 to 1965. He was stationed in Friedburg, Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 548, Walcott, Iowa and lifetime member of VFW. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Fraternal Lodge. He was employed through Labor Local 309 where he took pride in showing the family the roads he “built”.Rex married Lorraine Weis on May 18, 1968 in Springbrook, Iowa. Rex is survived by his wife, Lorraine and two children, Tyrone (Kris) Houghton and Dr. Heidi Houghton Harrington and a grandson, Brennan Harrington, and a brother, Glenn Houghton, in laws and nieces and nephews, and his little dog, “Snickers”. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James (Sid).The family wishes to thank the staff from Medic EMS, Davenport Fire Department, Motto Dialysis, Genesis Hospital, St. Mary’s Nursing and Rehab and Genesis Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 548 in Walcott, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
