James "Jim" Oliver Houghton, Sr., 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at The Wyndmoor.

Jim was born in Elberfeld, Indiana on January 24, 1935 to the late Oliver and Martine (Basham) Houghton. Jim worked for many years as a coast to coast truck and bus driver. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Jim loved to travel and looked forward to the yearly family trip to Louisiana. Above all else, Jim loved his family and will be missed by many.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Tina Houghton-Francis; sons, Delbert Houghton (Laurell), Donald Houghton, Ron Houghton (Jeanna), and Eric Dockery (Tawani); sister, Doris; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Linda Darlene (Crow) Houghton; daughter, Deborah K. Gardner; sons, James Houghton, Jr., Thomas Dockery, and Dennis Houghton; his parents; sisters, Della, Juanita, Lois, Donna, Barbara, and Louise; brothers, Loran and Charles; and dear friends, William "Dickie" Temme and Vic Ross.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Wyndmoor of Evansville for their compassionate care.

Charles E. Houghton, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home.

Charles was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 29, 1939 to the late Oliver P. and Martine (Basham) Houghton. He was a graduate of North High School. Charles served in the United States Navy for eight and a half years. He retired from Alcoa after 18 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Charles was a foster parent for Catholic Charities for 33 years and he was a member of North Haven General Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and bowling.

Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Mayer) Houghton of Evansville, IN; daughters, Lisa Marie Hampton and Rose Cotton (Art) both of Evansville, IN; sons, Anthony "Tony" Houghton of FL; Bruce Houghton; Chuck Houghton (Stephanie); Robert "Bobby" Houghton; David Houghton (Audra); and Joshua Houghton (Destinee) all of Evansville, IN; sisters, Doris Pemberton of Evansville, IN and Barbara Brinker of Boonville, IN; brothers, James Houghton of Evansville, IN and Loran Houghton (Beverly) of Newburgh, IN; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Della Staub, Juanita Kissinger, Louise Horne, Nellie Cummings, Lois Miller, and Donna Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veteran Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Published in Courier Press on May 21, 2018

Loran Houghton, 76, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home.

Loran was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 24, 1945 to the late Oliver and Martine (Basham) Houghton. He graduated from North High School and married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jewell, in 1964. Loran honorably served in the United State Navy. He later worked for Benerson and Alcoa. Loran loved spending time with his kids and many grandkids, riding his motorcycle, and traveling in his RV.

Loran is survived by his children, Ricky Houghton (Pamela) of Wexford, PA, Robin Craig of Newburgh, IN, Ryan Houghton (Kimberly) of Chandler, IN, Randy Houghton (Lindsay) of Rockport, IN, Rhonda Houghton of Newburgh, IN, Martha Holder (Terry) of Spottsville, KY, and David Houghton (Maddison) of GA; sister, Doris Pemberton of Evansville, IN; brother, Jim Houghton of Evansville, IN; 30 grandchildren; one great-grandson, Atticus Boyd; numerous foster kids that all called him "Dad"; and several nieces and nephews.

Loran was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Beverly J. (Jewell) Houghton; his parents; siblings, Charles Houghton, Louise Horne, Lois Miller, Donna Marshall, Barbara Brinker, Della Staub, Nellie Cummings, Juanita Kissinger, Mary J. Houghton, Joyce Ann Houghton, and James Houghton.

A celebration of Loran's life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor Steve Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

CLAYTON — Services for George Fred Houghton will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Clayton Baptist Church with the Revs. James Moffett and Willard Sanderford officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery under direction of Comer, Ferriday.
Houghton, 77, of Clayton died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, in Riverland Medical Center, Ferriday.
He was a longtime resident of Clayton and a retired carpenter and school bus driver for Concordia Parish Schools. He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Traxler Houghton of Clayton; three sons, Jerry Edward Houghton of Ferriday, Joseph Richard Houghton of Clayton and Harold Dix Houghton of Vidalia; two daughters, Freddie Joyce White of Roxie, Miss., and Alicia Jan Armstrong of Ridgecrest; 18 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren.
