Lucy Frogge Sim: In 1990 my mother gave me a copy of a book on the Martin family that was privately published by William James Martin of San Francisco, CA on August 15, 1949. Do you have this?
It starts with Jasper Martin (1797-1833) and Sarah Coats Martin (1797-1830) married in Newcastle, North Cumberland County, England on June 18, 1814 and migrated to Canada in 1818. It includes a news story from 1923, other news stories, letters and pictures. This consists of 30 typewritten pages.
There was an update included of 4 pages with the children of Robert Gray Martin (up to 1990).

I also have a note re my mother telling me that Eva Hollenbeck was her grandmother who came from upper NY on the Hudson River south of West Point. My mother said that she (Eva) was 15 years old when she married a 30 year old man, had 13 kids and had a "sewing machine to go" business.⁴

Greenville, MI, USA, MARTIN, HOUGHTON J. - Daily News, Greenville, MI - Tuesday, January 5, 1999 Greenville - Houghton James "Hoot" MARTIN, 88, Alma, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 1, 1999, at Michigan Masonic Home, Alma. He was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Yale, the son of Robert Gray and Sarah Jane HOUGHTON MARTIN. Hoot worked as a fabric and color specialist, beginning in the mills at Yale, then with Kaiser Frazier in Ypsilanti, and retiring from the Ford Motor Co. in the 1970s. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of the Shriners in Dearborn, and the High-Ten Club of Leesburg, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen BURNS. In 1936 he married Eva Lenore KING. She preceded him in death in 1961. He is survived by four sisters, Margaret Ruth CORRELL, Beatrice May BROGGE, Lois Louise DILL, Joyce Alma WILLIAMSON; his children, Dr. Annette MARTIN of Brighton, Richard James and Marilyn MARTIN of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandchilddren, Christine Elizabeth POE and Danielle Rene MARTIN; his great-grandchildren, Sean MARTIN and Shana Elizabeth POE. In 1962 he married Marian Beatrice LOWE KOLLGAARD. She preceded him in death in 1988. He is also survived by her children, Pamela Rae and John ROGERS, Kristen LOWE and Darren STRAKA; her grandchildren, Sean Michael O'NEIL, Jessica LANE and Ericka Rae STRAKA. In 1988 he married Lorna HELFER. She survives along with her children, Leland and Delores HELFER of Alma, Nancy and Gene LA CROIX of Jenison. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Michigan Masonic Home chapel, Alma, with the Rev. Harold Prong officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti. Contributions in Hoot's memory may be directed to your local Shriners Burn Center. The Brown-Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, is serving the family.¹
