Long Beach Press Telegram Ruth Billings was born in Long Beach on November 13, 1919 and passed away on April 15, 2007 in Westminster, California. Ruth lived her whole life in Long Beach attending Mann Elementary School, Jefferson Jr. High, Wilson High, Long Beach City College and US Berkeley.

She was married for 64 years to John Franklin Billings who considered her the love of his life. They had two children, Donna and John Jr. (Jeff). She taught elementary school for 27 years in the LAUSD. After her retirement in 1980, she volunteered weekly at the Long Beach Veteran's Hospital. She was past president of the Long Beach City Collehe Foundation Fine Arts Association. She was a long time member of the Belmont Heights Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She and John traveled extensively throughout Europe spending time in Norway to visit Donna and her children. They also enjoyed a retirement home on the East Cape in Baja. Ruth was a very energetic and fun-loving person who will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Mr. Mark H. Houghton and Alma Bradbury Houghton and daughter Donna Lae. She is survived by her husband John, son Jeff (Nancy), grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Billings, and Vilhelm and Carl Lae: 6 great grandchildren⁴
