"He was a carpenter and builder, and when a young man, he went to the republic of Texas, and lived with his uncle, Asa Brigham, who was the first Treasurer of the Republic. While there he built the first frame house in the city of Austin. He soon returned to Marlborough and became one of the best known builders in that vicinity. He was one of the Board of Seclectmaen for several years, previous to the town being incorporated as a city, and was the first President of the Peoples National Bank in Marlborough."²
