Pulford Gravestones ( Found by Richard James SNELSON )
In his letter of 1 October 1988 to me, Richard describes how he, his elder brother, Barry and his eldest son, Gareth went in search of SNELSON graves, beginning at Pulford and found :-
Elizabeth SNELSON, wife of John of Broad Oak, Burton. She died 16 Feb 1818 aged 67 years. Also her husband John who died 7 August 1831 aged 83 years. This stone is laid on the main pathway.
Peter SNELSON of Broad Oak. He died 28 May, 1856 ( N.B. the M.I.'s say 28 May 1856 ) aged 42 years. Also Elizabeth his wife died 26 Mar 1888 aged 88 years.
More graves were found next to the above hidden under some thick moss as follows :-
James son of Joseph SNELSON died an infant 11 Jun 1818. Also Joseph SNELSON, d. 16 Jun 1839 aged 80 + years - the red sandstone is too worn to read. Also Ruth wife of Joseph died 10 Jun 1851 aged 75 years ( year and age may be wrong - worn sandstone again ).
? ( this must be Sarah ) Huxley ( worn sandstone ) wife of Richard ? Huxley of Chester and daughter ? of John & Mary SNELSON died 20 ( month unreadable ) 1857 ( this should be 1837 ) aged 24 years. Also John Snelson of Poulton ( 1 mile E of Pulford over the border in England ) died day and month unreadable 1851 aged 77 years. Also Mary died day and month unreadable 1859 aged 69 years.
Clearly this is the same line as Wallace Peter Snelson of Linera Station, Cobar. Wallace writes that his grandfather was John son of Peter Snelson and his wife Elizabeth, farmers, of Broad Oak, Burton, England. According to Wallace, Peter and Elizabeth were married in 1825 and their son John was baptised in Pulford in May 1832.
