| Biography | This Sir John Savage Jun. was a distinguished warrior and had charge of the left wing at the Battle of Bosworth Field, August 22 1485 in which Richard III was slain. He was instrumental in placing Henry VII on the throne. See Sir Peter Leycester's Hist Antiq Bucklow Hundred, p. 232. He was slain himself at the siege of Boulogne in 1492 and is commemmorated by a fine effigy on the north side of the Savage Chapel in Macclesfield Church. [:CR:]. |
