Consanguinity - Great-great Uncle of Adrian John Snelson "On Monday afternoon last, [2nd March 1868], a railway porter named Samuel Benyon was unfortunately killed at the Bebington station. The deceased was engaged in shunting some waggons on to a siding, and was using a rope for the purpose, when he slipped, and was thrown forward between the buffers of the waggons. He was dreadfully crushed. Death ensued immediately after the accident." (Report in the Liverpool Mercury on Wednesday, March 4, 1868) The following Report appeared in the Liverpool Mercury of Friday, March 13, 1868. "It will be to the recollection of your readers that a young man of the name of Samuel Benyon, a porter at the Bebington station on the Chester and Birkenhead Railway was accidentally killed whilst engaged shunting waggons at that station. It is most gratifying to be able to state that through the exertions of the station-master, Mr Briscoe and the generous sympathy of the neighbouring gentlemen a sum of over £20 has been collected on behalf of the widow and child of the deceased." |
