Linah Mims Migration

The immigrant Thomas Mims arrived in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., Virginia, before 1694. His son Thomas lived there, and his son John was born there in 1705.

John moved to his place on Licking Hole Creek, Goochland Co., by 1733. Linah's father, John, is generally thought to be the son of this John.

Linah was born in Goochland Co. in 1772. He moved to Greenbrier Co. by 1800, and married Rebeccah Davis there in 1803.

Linah was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1806, then to the Council of State, or "Privy Council" in 1811, serving until 1818. At some point he, and probably his family, moved to Richmond.

By 1819 Linah had moved his family to Christian Co., Kentucky, where he apparently lived until he was appointed as an Indian Agent. His son John had established himself in Eddyville, Caldwell Co. by then, and it appears the younger daughters moved there. Linah returned there after his service as Agent.
