Hugh Underhill

Hugh Underhill was born say 1518?² He was the son of Thomas Underhill and Anne Wynter.¹ Hugh Underhill married Mrs (?) (?) Underhill, daughter of Thomas Mayneman. Hugh Underhill married Katherine Manning, daughter of George Manning and Joan Walles.³ Hugh Underhill died about January 1593 survived by Katherine Manning.³
Hugh's father Thomas Underhill died in 1520.⁴ Hugh Underhill in 1540 was mentioned in the will of Richard Fowler, and the form of the bequest implies that Hugh had reached his majority.⁵ He became the father of Thomas Underhill in 1545.⁶ Hugh Underhill was an heir in the will of Thomas Mayneman dated 18 October 1562.³ Hugh Underhill became a widower with the death of his wife, Mrs (?) (?) Underhill after 18 October 1562.⁷ Hugh Underhill was appointed to the office of keeper of the wardrobe within the manor of Greenwich, Kent, to Queen Elizabeth I Tudor on 6 February 1563 replacing Thomas Mayneman.⁷ Hugh Underhill and Katherine Manning in 1590 were appointed by Queen Elizabeth to the office of keeper of our garden (commonly called the Queen's Garden) in the manor of East Greenwich, Kent.⁷ Hugh Underhill left a will on 1 January 1592/93 administrated by George Underhill and Katherine Manning with heirs Hugh Underhill.³
