George L. Cassidy was born on 28 November 1897 in Langdon, Cavalier Co., North Dakota.2,3 He married Harriet Laura Lewis, daughter of Daniel Coffin Lewis and Bernice Pamelia Burlingham, about 1921.4,1 They were divorced sometime between 1930, when they were listed together in the census, and 1940, when Harriet was listed as divorced.5,6 He died on 18 September 1987 (Social Security records say 15 September 1987) in Los Angeles Co., California, at age 89.3,7
No record has been found online for the marriage of Harriet Lewis and George Cassidy. The obituaries of both of Harriet's parents, and of her brother Bert, name her as Harriet Cassidy.8,9,10 The identification of her husband's given name as George is based on the 1930 census entry for George L. and Harriet Cassidy in Long Beach Twp., Los Angeles Co., California, the only Harriet Cassidy listed in California. It lists Harriet's age as 33 (she was actually 38) and birthplace as California, and her father's and mother's birthplaces as Massachusetts and California.5 (Her father was actually born in Maine11, but apparently moved to Massachusetts as a child. His own 1920 census entry lists his birthplace as Massachusetts, and his obituary says he was a native of Massachusetts).12,8
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I, enlisting on 22 September 1917. He was discharged on 18 July 1919.13
He and his wife Harriet are listed in Long Beach Twp., Los Angeles Co., California, in the 1930 census.5 He was then working as a produce salesman.5
