He and his first wife Ethel are listed in the 1930 census living with Robert's brother Jay and his wife Mina in Cooper Twp., Kalamazoo Co., Michigan.7,8 In 1940 he was living as a lodger with the family of Ben Parks in Thornapple, Barry Co., Michigan, and listed in the census as divorced.9 He and his second wife Willowdean may have lived for a time in California. They are listed there in San Francisco in the 1945 city directory.10 They were back in Michigan by 1950, listed in the census in Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., along with their son Robert, age 5. Living with them were Willowdean's brother Robert DeWitt and his family.11
He was listed as a farmer at the time of his first marriage in 19274, then worked at the Allied Paper Mill in Kalamazoo for several years7,3,9, and was later a railroad telegraph operator.11

He was a copper miner.2,6,5 In 1930 he and his wife (listed as Katherine) were living in Centerville, Silver Bow Co., Montana.6 He was living in Talkeetna, Alaska, in 1935, and back in Silver Bow Co., Montana, in 1940, as a lodger along with many other miners in a house headed by Mary McBride in Butte. He was then listed in the census as single.7 In 1942 he was living in Enterprise, Butte Co., California,3, and shortly afterward moved to Nevada.8

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a technician 5th grade in the 1262nd Engineer Combat Battalion, enlisting on 13 May 1942. He was discharged on 17 January 1946.9,10 At the time of his enlistment his occupation was given as fisherman and oysterman.10
No marriage record has been found for online for Demus Stanley Solberg and Kathleen Ann Horine, but Roland Solberg's obituary names his parents as Demus Stanley Solberg and Kathleen Horine, and Demus's wife is listed as Kathleen in the 1950 census, in his obituary, and on his death certificate.1,11,12,7 They lived in Clatskanie, Columbia Co., Oregon, and are listed there in the 1950 census next to Demus's parents.11
