Canadian Military Service - WWI

     Roy Forrest of Kindersley, Saskatchewan began military service on 27 May 1916 at the age of 19 at Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 203rd Overseas Battalion. On his Particluars of Family form, his middle name was given as Clinton, but was stroked out.. He was an unmarried farmer. He had no previous military experience.. He was described as being 5' 7" and 160 lbs. with a fair compexion, grey brown eyes and light brown hair. He was assigned regimental number 235120.3 Pte. Roy Forrest ended his military service on 25 March 1919 at Kingston, Ontario, Canada, as medically unfit for further war service (due to his wound) after serving in Canada, England and France. He was deemed to have a pensionable disability..

     Roy C. Forest appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Bromley Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario in the household of his parents, John and Agnes Forest.11
     On 19 April 1917, he went to France, as a Lance Corporal. On 15 Aug 1917 he received a shrapnel wound to his left hand. He was discharged back to base on 30 Sep 1917. He was wounded again near Arras, on 31 Aug 1918, receiving a machine gun bullet (or possibly a sniper's bullet) wound to his right arm, damaging his ulnar nerve, before entering his chest and exiting behind the point of entry. This eventually lead to his being invalided back to Canada. on 22 Dec 1918, he was admitted to the Queen's Military Hospital at Kingston, Ontario. He was discharged on 22 Mar 1919.3
     Roy Forrest and Jennet Forrest appeared on the 1931 Canadian Census of Bromley Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 1 June 1931, described as a farmer on a mixed farm. Their son, Robert, was listed as living with them.6
