She was born on 1 November 1863 at Illinois, USA.3,4 Effie married Robert Maitland on 21 January 1881 at DeKalb County, Illinois, USA.5,3,2
Effie L. Attwood appeared on the 1920 U.S. Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, in the household of Floyd and Dorothy Maitland, and she was listed as a divorced labler in a factory.6
Effie L. Attwood appeared on the 1930 U.S. Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Ward 28, enumerated 9 April 1930, described as a widowed lodger in the household of Betty M. Dawson. She was a housemaid for a private family. Her father was born in Vermont, and her mother in Illinois.7 She lived at Elgin, Kane County, Illinois, USA, in 1940 at 233 DuPage St.8
Effie Maitland appeared on the 1940 U.S. Federal Census of Elgin, Elgin Twp., Kane County, Illinois, in the household of Floyd and Marie Maitland, and was listed as a widow, in her son Floyd's household.4 Effie Maitland, her son, was listed as next-of-kin/contact on the draft registration of of Leland, Illinois, Harry Floyd Maitland.9
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
I accept that Effie, the mother of Guy S Maitland was married to the same Robert Maitland who later married Adeline Fox. Guy's obituary lists J. R. Maitland and Mrs. John Hyde as his siblings. They were the children of Robert Maitland and Adeline Fox.
This does not explain why Effie and Robert are listed in a 1940 directory of Elgin, Illinois.10
