Grand Central School Captures Honors at Delisle Field Sports
DELISLE - An Inter-school field meet was held on Friday at Delisle Town School. Four school districts took part and there were about 200 contestants. During the afternoon parents and visitors were especially invited and the school was open for inspection. Results were as follows [extracted events and names of interest:]
Girls, 6 and under - 40 yard dash: Lois Miller, Helen Currie and Shirley Summach. Potato race: Helen Currie, Lois Miller, Shirley Summach.
Boys, 7 and 8 - Standing broad jump: Fred Summach, Pete Gardner, Arnett Cosgrove. Triple standing broad jump: Fred Summach, Pete Gardner, Gordon Paterson. Potato race: Fred Summach, Gordon Paterson, Pete Gardner. Tire race: Fred Summach, Pete Gardner, Gordon Paterson.
Girls, 7 and 8 - 60 yard dash: Fay Worth, Ruby Weber, Hilda Hunter. Standing broad jump: Avis Bentley, Ruby Weber, Joyce Lund. Triple standing broad jump: Joyce Lund, Ruby Weber, Hilda Butler.
Boys, 9 and 10 - 75 yard dash: Jackie Bentley, Beverley Bentley, Donald Peterson. Running broad jump: Percy Summach, Beverley Bentley. Hop, step and jump: Marshall Bentley, Teddy Summach, Kenneth Green.
Girls, 9 and 10 - 75 yard dash: Elda Johnson, Mabel Tweedie, Estelle Summach.

Girls, 11 and 12 - 74 yards dash: Hazel French, Lorena Junip, Mary McBean. Running broad jump: Hazel French, Mary McBean, Lorena Junip. High Jump: Hazel French, Loris Summach, Marjory Gordon.
Boys, 13 and 14 - Running broad jump: Evans Robson, Kenneth Summach, Ray Summach.
Girls, 13 and 14 - 75-yard dash: June Gardner, Ann Rutledge, Marietta Summach. Running broad jump: Marietta Summach, June Gardner, Madeline Farrell. Hop, step and jump: Madeline Farrell, Marietta Summach, Norma Lund. High jump: Madeline Farrell, Marietta Summach, June Gardner.
School crests were given to the pupils obtaining the highest individual scores. These were won by Lois Miller, Delisle, age six, who made 23 points out of a possible 25, and by Freddie Summach of Avondale, age eight, who made 25 points out of a possible 25. School standings were worked out on a percentage basis according to the number of pupils enrolled in the school. Grand Central School won the honor of being top school.
