Biography
Thomas Davies was born on 22 Jan 1810 and christened on 4 Mar 1810 at Gravel Lane Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Salford, Lancashire. He was the son of Thomas and Ann Maria Davies. The family was living in Bury Street, Salford, and Thomas' father was a flour dealer.
Thomas served on Salford Council from 1853-1856.
Thomas was mayor of Salford in 1868 - 1870.
Thomas was married by 1869.[1]
Thomas visited the scene of a colliery accident in Salford during his time as mayor.[2]
Thomas died on 18 Oct 1885 in Pendleton, Lancashire.
Research Notes
Thomas had a younger brother William Davies (1823-1890), and another brother who was an Anglican clergyman according to William's obituary. Baptisms of their siblings are listed on Lancashire OPC between 1808 and 1831, and they also had a brother Edward born in about 1834.[3]

1885 - "Alderman Thomas Davies died at Pendleton, October 18, aged 75 years. He first entered the Salford Council in 1853, and remained a councillor for three years. He was again elected in November, 1850, and was thrice mayor- in 1868-60-70. He was chairman of the Libraries and Parks Committee, and took a prominent part in all municipal affairs. He was officially connected with the Irwell Street Wesleyan Chapel, where he not unfrequently preached." (Axon).
