RIJCKMANS, Elisee Francois born in Paris Aug. 14th 1821, died at Batavia Aug. 28 1870, son of EI.ISéE ANDRéE LOUIS R. (teacher of music at Rotterdam, Holland, where he died Nov. 7 I856. grandson of JEAN JACQUES R. and AN N E CASPER, living in Terheyden near Breda (Holland), but emigrating to France, where JEAN J. RIJCKMANS died at Morlaix and his wife at Nice) and Adèle De la Motte.
He married twice:
1. JEANNETTE MARIA DOROTHEA KOEK;
2. at Batavia Nov. 19th 1857 SOPHIA JEANNETTE MARIE MALLET, born at Batavia, on the 26th of August 1835, died at Batavia Dec. 15th 1883. daughter of the late FRANCISCUS LUDOVICUS JOSEPHUS MALLET and JEANNETTE ANTOINETTE LOUISE BRUNO.
They were buried on Tanahabang churchyard Batavia-C.
Part 111 no. 207/8. On the tombstone is a monument with the following inscription:
Hier rusten / E. F. RIJCKMANS /geb. te Parijs 14 Augustus 1821 / gest. te Batavia 28 Augustus I 870 SOPHIE JEANNETTE MARIE RIJCKMANS / geb. MALLET / geb. te Batavia 26 Augustus 1835 / overl. te Batavia 15 December 1883 / Maatschappij van Toonkunst / ter nagedachtenis van / E. F. RIJCKMANS.
He lived at Passer Baroe (new Market) at Batavia-C.. and the lane in front of his house has been called ,,Gang RIJCKMANS". He was the ,,stadsorganist" = organist of the town, of Batavia and the first conductor of TOONKUNST. He was also a famous teacher of music (muziekmeester). On the organ of the Portugeesche Buitenkerk at Batavia is a copper plate mentioning:
Anno MDCCCLX Augusti 1 organa haec subopere refecta in solita sede locanda curavit E. F. RIJCKMANS urbanae ecclesiae organicus.
