That this Joshua HINSON is the son of James HINSON of Dobbs and Robeson Co., NC and the younger brother of Jesse Hinson is well supported by literature 1260 472 but has not been proven by primary data.

Assuming that Joshua was born 1783 287 and his family moved to Robeson Co., NC in 1796 then he would have been about age 13 at the time of the move and would have been about age 17 in the 1800 census of Robeson Co., NC

All of Joshua’s children were by his first wife, name unknown, before he married his second wife, Lucy Sikes. 472 Joshua’s 1810 census data for Robeson Co and 1820 census data for Columbus Co. indicates that Joshua was married to his first wife and had 3 children by 1810. But it appears that that they had 6 more children AND his first wife died AND Joshua remarried to Lucy Sikes AND they moved to Columbus Co. in the period 1810-1820.

1801 - Joshua purchased 50 acres (“Lewis Mill Br.”) in Robeson Co., NC from William Ashley. See Deed Book K, p. 80 529. This fact supports that he was age 18 or greater in 1801 which infers a birth year of 1783 or earlier. His reported age of 67 in the 1850 census of Columbus Co., NC 287 further supports a birth year of 1783.
